Relief Driver (Public Transport Unit)

We are looking to establish a pool of Relief Drivers to convey service users (including older people and adults/children with learning and physical disabilities) from their homes to a variety of establishments including day care centres, social care/school establishments and other destinations as required. Transport is undertaken in 16 seat wheelchair accessible minibuses.


Due to the insurance requirements, you should have a full, clean UK driving licence, with category D1, and be able to provide evidence of at least 3 years' driving experience. You should be able to demonstrate an understanding or experience of working in a social care related environment and provide examples of good customer service.

PVG Membership for Regulated Work with Children and Vulnerable Adults is required or the willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of contract being made.

If you are successful, following interview, you will be placed in a relief pool for Drivers and may be contacted as and when work requires to be covered. There are no guaranteed weekly hours and you will be issued with a contract for services.

A driving licence check will also be undertaken prior to placement in the relief pool.


The post holder is expected to demonstrate:

Ability to manoeuvre large vehicles.

Ability to use own initiative or work with minimum supervision

Ability to deal compassionately with people

Ability to cope with the physical demands of the post, for example manually handling people and lifting heavy equipment
