JOB TITLE: Lecturer in Counselling - Post Qualifying Diploma in Counselling Children and Adolescents

SALARY: AC1 (GBP24,775 up to GBP32,277) pro rata


WORKING HOURS: One weekend per month, 9.30 - 17.30. 1 year fixed-term contract (with possibility of extension).

THE COMPANY: Our client is a College organisation based in Exeter with over 30 years' experience lecturing in counselling and psychotherapy and related disciplines. The college provides learning opportunities for a range of students at various levels from Certificate level through to Post-Graduate degrees. They also offer a comprehensive CPD programme. They established a further training centre a few years ago in a popular central location in Poole, which is also going from strength to strength.

Due to the unprecedented growth and popularity of their Post Qualifying Diploma in Counselling Children and Adolescents course, they are currently seeking an additional Lecturer to join their team.

THE ROLE: This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for Counselling to join a dedicated college at a time of growth. Working as a Lecturer you will be based in Poole, Dorset and will be responsible for delivering the Post Qualifying Diploma in Counselling Children and Adolescents course.

You will be joining an extremely successful organisation which consistently aims to provide high quality learning experiences for their students, taking pride in their record of achievement and successful outcomes for students.

Key Responsibilities of the Lecturer to include:-
  • To teach on the Post Qualifying Diploma in Counselling Children and Adolescents with a specialist range and knowledge of the interaction between different aspects of a young person's world.
  • To ensure students develop an understanding of:
1. ethical principles in relation to therapeutic practice.
2. knowledge of legal frameworks relating to working with young people.
  • Work as part of a team and attend all scheduled team activities.
  • To provide a diverse range of structured teaching and learning experiences using observation, clinical skills, creative exercises, experiential work, reflective practice and feedback.
  • To ensure students develop an understanding of ethical principles in relation to therapeutic practice and ethical decision making.
  • Form a good working alliance with students.
  • Enable students to work individually and collaboratively.
  • Carry out marking and assessment with the provision of feedback to students to enable improvement. Maintain assessment and tutorial records.
  • Provide academic and additional learning support.
  • Support students in their learning and personal development.
  • Monitor student attendance, and progress.
  • Develop innovative teaching, learning and assessment strategies, to inspire and motivate.
  • Develop and share new and best practices in teaching, learning, assessment and other aspects with colleagues.

THE CANDIDATE: We are seeking to appoint Lecturers who are appropriately qualified and with membership of an appropriate professional body, with a successful background in delivering training. You should have extensive experience of being a counselling practitioner and have a strong theoretical base in both humanistic counselling and working therapeutically with children and young people. You should be passionate about the subject you are teaching, enthusiastic and have the ability to inspire and motivate students.

Key skills/experience essential for Lecturer:
  • Diploma in working therapeutically with children and young people.
  • Undergraduate Degree (or equivalent).
  • Experience of teaching (classroom or practice based).
  • Clinical experience since qualification.
