LOCATION: Wing near Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire
JOB TITLE: Assistant Gardener
SALARY & BENEFITS: Competitive dependent on experience plus benefit package
WORKING HOURS: Full Time - will require occasional weekend work

THE COMPANY: Our client operate a grand 16th century Estate and Gardens owned by the National Trust. The 4,400 acre estate is comprised of over 3,500 acres of arable land, 300 acres of grassland, 300 acres of woodland and 40 residential letting properties.

The House and Gardens are open to members of the public between March and September each year. Visitors to the estate can gain a unique glimpse at an exceptional collection of paintings, fine furniture and superb oriental porcelain. Traditionally the garden and grounds has always been one of the property's best-known features, covering over 30 acres, it is an unusual blend of the formal and the natural. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Gardener to join our client's existing team.

THE ROLE: For the Assistant Gardener's position you will be required to take a flexible approach to a range of gardening duties from weeding, planting, mowing lawns, strimming to general maintenance and ground work. You will work on your own and as well as with a team of gardeners in ensuring grounds and gardens within the estate meet the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities for the Assistant Gardener's role in Wing near Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire include:

- Assist the gardening team in their everyday duties to maintain the private gardens for House resident's and to the visiting public when open
- General gardening work such as planting, weeding, mowing lawns hedge trimming
- Providing maintenance and cleaning of water features and garden areas
- Carry out any other park or garden maintenance work as directed by the head gardener or by head of department such as spraying of pesticides etc.

THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate for the Assistant Gardener position should be an enthusiastic person who is naturally passionate about gardening and horticulture. You must be someone who has keen eye for detail and be someone who is available to work occasional weekends. You must hold or be working towards a qualification relating to gardening or horticulture and must have hands on experience working as a Gardener. Previous experience working in a Public/Private Historic Garden or a National Trust site would be an advantage as would certificates for PA1 and PA6 in pesticides spraying although not essential.

Key Experience/ Characteristics preferred for the Assistant Gardener's role in Wing near Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire :-

- Must have or be close to completion of a qualification in Gardening or Horticulture
- Is essential you are passionate about gardening and can demonstrate attention to detail
- Must be flexible in the days hours you can work as will require occasional weekends
- At least 1 years hands on experience in gardening or horticulture is essential
- Although not essential certificates in PA1 and PA6 in pesticides spraying would be an advantage
- Previous experience working within a Public/Private Historic Garden or a National Trust site is desirable
