We have a new vacancy within our Service Team for a Qualified/Time Served Mechanical Technician who will be based at our Plymouth office. Our Service Team carries out worldwide installation, commissioning, maintenance, fault finding and repair for MacTaggart Scott bespoke products and occasionally other manufactured equipment. We have service provisions at locations in Scotland, Plymouth and Australia. This position is based at our Plymouth office but involves worldwide response sometimes at short notice. This is a great opportunity to be part of the worldwide Naval Defence and Marine Market. We also offer engineering solutions to the civil and renewable energies markets giving us a diverse customer base.

In this role you will be responsible for the supervision of the team and workshop at Plymouth. This is a challenging and varied role working to agreed instructions, time and budget where you will supervise and assist with the installation phase of major projects, carry out commission and acceptance activities for new and refurbished equipment and provide effective training to our customers for operation and maintenance of installed equipment. You will carry out fault diagnosis and repair and conduct equipment surveys, making appropriate recommendations. Coordinating work packages and supervising subcontract personnel and teams is all part of this role along with preparing high quality technical and survey reports.

In order to be considered for this role we are looking for someone who has experience of working on surface ship and submarine systems or similar.  (Heavy mechanical/hydraulic Marine Equipment). Completion of a relevant apprenticeship or a BSc or BEng in Mechanical Engineering is essential for the role. You will have knowledge of hydraulic systems with the ability to interpret mechanical, hydraulic and electrical drawings and documents and produce high standard technical reports using Microsoft Office Packages.  Ideally the successful candidate will have previous experience of leading or supervising a team. To succeed in this role you will have excellent communication skills and be comfortable in a customer facing role. You will have a track record of managing changing priorities, often under pressure, using own initiative. Flexibility is key as you will be required to work worldwide at short notice as well as work from any of our bases across the UK.

Due to the nature of the work associated with this post, the successful candidate will be subject to background checking for MOD security clearance.
