The Team

The Financial Controller will join our Finance team located in the London office, but will be located within either the Corporate, M&A and Securities or Risk Advisory Practice Groups.

Our Corporate Practice Group advises on the full range of corporate, mergers and acquisitions, and securities matters. We are strategically positioned in the world's leading business and financial markets, enabling us to handle and fully coordinate highly complex domestic, cross-border and multi-jurisdictional transactions. Our Risk Group comprises our Anti-trust, Competition and Regulatory, Real Estate and Tax Practices.

The Role


The Financial Controller will act as a strategic interface between our EMEA Corporate, M&A and Securities and Risk Advisory Practices and the Finance Department to ensure that the members of the practice areas receive effective, efficient and responsive financial data, support, reporting and analysis so that appropriate decisions can be taken to drive revenue and profitability growth.


The Financial Controller will report to the Head of Practice Management EMEA.

The Financial Controller will not have direct line management responsibility for any other staff but will work closely with the London Revenue Manager and EMEA finance teams to ensure delivery of operational and strategic services.

Specific Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work that will be performed. The detailed responsibilities include but are not limited to

Serve as the financial link between the practice groups and the finance department
Enable the practice group to achieve its objectives, make decisions and plan appropriately through the effective understanding and use of financial information
Provide necessary financial support to ensure strategic business development, client retention and increased client profitability within the practice groups
Responsibility for the review and follow up of working capital issues within the practice group
Co-ordination of annual revenue budgets and re-forecast for the practice groups. This will involve as necessary liaison with London and international team leaders, the physical preparation and analysis of budgets together with supporting documentation and justification
Co-ordination of the financial review process for the practice groups
Support the practice area partners in pricing program, and client bids and proposals where finance-enabled capability adds value
Provide financial mentoring to newly promoted partners / laterals / promotion candidates
Support the practice groups in building business cases for required initiatives, such as lateral hires, practice area and geographic expansion
Support the Head of Practice Management in the overall Financial Management of the practice area

Skills and Experience Required

A solid grounding and a breadth and depth of post qualification experience in the financial management of a professional services organisation
A recognised professional accountancy qualification
MS Excel
High levels of computer literacy and competence
Strong presentation skills
Good problem solver
Proven ability to multi-task
Proven forward planning skills and the ability to manage others and help them to prioritise their workloads effectively
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Sense of pride in work
Flexible approach to working hours
Positive, committed and prepared to use initiative and learn
Ability to take responsibility
