Deputy Head of Finance

37 hours per week £47,136 – £52,113 per annum Grade 8

Based in Calcot, Reading

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) are seeking to recruit a Deputy Head of Finance to join their Finance and Procurement Team based at their service headquarters. As the Deputy Head of Finance, you will work with senior officers, Fire Authority members and outside organisations to deliver departmental and corporate objectives and to improve service delivery to the public.

The key focus of this role is:

  • To act as the Authority’s deputy statutory Finance Officer.
  • To be responsible for the effective day-to-day management of the Finance Department.
  • To demonstrate a positive leadership role which fosters an environment of excellence within the Department and the wider organisation, where each member of the team contributes to the strategic aims and Corporate Plan objectives.
  • To prepare annual and long term revenue and capital budgets and financial strategies, and to manage monthly budget monitoring for the Authority including the preparation of budget monitoring reports.
  • To manage the production of the statutory accounts in line with CIPFA guidance and within specified timescales.

Key role requirements include:

  • Excellent written communication skills to produce financial policies, procedures and reports.
  • Excellent oral communication skills to provide advice to non-financial managers/senior management and elected members.
  • Detailed knowledge of CIPFA’s code of practice on Local Authority Accounting.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.

Qualifications required are:

  • CCAB qualified (including CPD) or equivalent
