Bunker Procurement Specialist: Global Shipping & Trading Company

Duration: Permanent.

Start Date: ASAP

This Global Trading & Shipping Company has an exciting opportunity for a Bunker Procurement Specialist to join their Solid Fuels desk. The Solid Fuels desk is responsible for global coal, freight and biomass trading, including sourcing of steam coal and biomass.

About the Role:

Working on the Dry Bulk Freight Trading desk, the purpose of this role is to procure physical bunker fuels to fulfil the requirements of the trading desk's chartered fleet of dry bulk vessels and to execute and manage the corresponding financial hedge positions, ensuring a proper flow of information at all times to and between internal teams and external customers.

Principal Accountabilities and Activities:

  • Establishing and maintaining favourable terms and effective relationships
  • Working with a panel of reliable and competitive physical bunker suppliers
  • Discussing bunkering schedules with the Freight Logistics team
  • Co-ordinating bunker fuel orders
  • Executing physical orders in the external market; reviewing and confirming transactions
  • Monitoring contract performance and arranging inspections and surveys where necessary
  • Actively managing commercial and operational risks associated with physical bunkering activities
  • Supporting the negotiation and settlement of contractual claims
  • Executing hedging transactions and daily reconciliation of physical and financial trading positions
  • Capturing and updating relevant trade information and providing price information

About You

  • Degree level or equivalent preferred, highly numerate, good A level Maths+
  • Experience in a commodities trading or shipping environment
  • Experience of physical oil markets and/or bunker fuel procurement and/or fuel hedging
  • Strong analytical, numerical and problem solving skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, Excel in particular
  • Experience using Openlink Endur and/or Veson IMOS
  • Fluency in English and a second language preferred
  • Confidence manipulating numerical data
