This Yard Assistant /Trainee Sawyer vacancy is based at our Christchurch branch but may well suit relevant candidates living in any nearby locations as listed above.

The Yard Assistant / Trainee Sawyer Role:

This a new diverse role within the Christchurch Branch which requires the job holder to have the ability to assist in the yard whilst training to become a Sawyer in our new Engineer Wood Products division.

Yard Assistant / Trainee Sawyer Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ability to accurately measure, cut and pack different lengths of timber
  • Cutting timber I beams to specification using a cross cut saw
  • Serving customers in the yard, both manually and with a counterbalance forklift
  • Loading/unloading lorries
  • Receiving and storing products from suppliers and dealing with associated paperwork
  • Housekeeping in the yard

Yard Assistant / Trainee Sawyer Requirements:

  • Experience using a cross cut saw for cutting timber would be advantageous
  • Must be capable of working Independently and as part of a team
  • Physically fit - ability to carry out physically demanding tasks
  • Counterbalance forklift license (essential)
  • Knowledge of building materials is preferable but training can be provided.
  • Friendly and professional manner
  • Good communication skills
  • High standards of customer service

Working Hours:

  • 40 hours, 8am-5pm Monday - Friday (flexibility required with start/finish times to cover workload)
