We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and self-motivated individual as Head of English and maths. This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding area of the college curriculum.

The successful candidate will have previously operated at Head of Department/Curriculum Manager level and be an excellent teaching professional with the ability to enthusiastically lead a large team to outstanding results. Your responsibilities will include raising standards and success rates, enhancing the teaching and learning experience, enabling innovation, budgetary control and raising of performance throughout the Department.

It is essential that the successful candidate has the drive and experience to ensure that they can meet the immediate challenges of the maths and English agenda in Further Education. As such, you must have demonstrable experience of affecting change and working Cross College.

You will hold QTS or QTLS status and a degree in English or maths. A post-graduate specialist qualification in English or maths would be a distinct advantage.

Experience within either the English or maths curriculum area is important to this role and you must have knowledge of the qualifications and awarding bodies in order to be considered. It is essential that you have excellent leadership and management experience and skills and proven credibility within a similar role in an education/training environment.

The Golden Hello payment would be a maximum payment of GBP6,000 payable as follows:

  • GBP2000 on appointment
  • GBP2000 on successful completion of probationary period
  • GBP2000 on successful completion of Certificate in Education (academic staff only); or 2 years
