The Social Work Service offers two types of help to children and their families in Fife:
Assessment of need and risk: Time with a social worker who may provide information, advice and a planned, assessed analysis of difficult situations in order to improve a child’s and/or family’s difficulties.
Direct service provision: Care, protection, support and accommodation (including residential houses and family placements with foster carers)
Our highest priority is the protection of children who may be at risk of harm, and the support of families to allow children to remain at home wherever possible. Where this is not in children’s best interests, our focus is on providing the best quality of care away from home for children and young people.
Social Work staff work closely with colleagues in other services and agencies in providing an integrated approach that seeks to meet the range of different and complex needs that vulnerable children and their families experience.
Fife Council pays the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate to employees earning less than £8.33 per hour. If the hourly rate of pay for the post is less than the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate a supplement will be paid.
The ability to travel throughout Fife is essential.
The pattern of working hours will be determined for individual remits and on occasions may include evenings and weekends. There will be a requirement to attend meetings outwith normal working hours, when necessary, subject to service user and staff availability.
There will also be a requirement to attend outwith normal working hours for development, training, registration compliance etc when necessary.
Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain PVG scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland.
To undertake thorough and informed assessment of a range of Foster Carers and provide ongoing supervision, support, review and training.
To provide support and mentoring to team colleagues.
To work jointly with Children and Families staff to ensure best possible outcomes for child
A Diploma in Social Work (or equivalent) qualification is essential, as is registration with the Scottish Social Services Council.
You must have significant post-qualifying experience together with an accredited post-qualifying award.
You should have considerable experience in a relevant setting together with knowledge and understanding of Child and Adult Protection guidelines and information sharing protocols.
You will have experience of joint working to achieve common goals.
