Trainee Sports Reporter

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a sports reporter to work on the website and its accompanying newspapers.

This multimedia role includes reporting on the biggest breaking sports stories in West London, including covering Chelsea, Fulham, QPR and Brentford.

Our Business: Trinity Mirror plc

Trinity Mirror plc, with an award winning portfolio of newspapers, websites and digital products, is one of the UK's largest multimedia companies employing more than six thousand people across sixty-plus locations around the country.

Our drive to capture, present and analyse the news inspired the launch of our very first papers in the early 19th Century. And today our commitment is just as strong. Whether via page or screen, our audiences get the trusted, reliable news service they have come to expect. Our loyal readers and advertisers are attracted by the knowledge, insight and vital services that our iconic brands (Daily Mirror, Manchester Evening News, Liverpool Echo, Scottish Daily Record, Sunday Mail, The Herald and Western Morning News to name a few) provide. None of this would be possible without our dedicated employees driving the business forward

You'll be keen to work on video projects at every possible opportunity and be bursting with ideas for exciting and interactive content to keep our audience engaged. You'll also be expected to be a face in front of the camera, performing onscreen opinion pieces, so this is not a job for the shy!

The role would suit an ambitious trainee with excellent NCTJ (or equivalent) exam results, or a reporter with on-the-job experience and a range of online techniques. Naturally, the right candidate will be extremely digitally-aware, up-to-speed with social media and know how to write the best SEO headlines. You'll also appreciate this is not a Monday to Friday, 9-5 job.

Required skills are strong writing, creativity and motivation, a tenacious approach to finding and following up stories, the ability and enthusiasm to employ a wide range of digital storytelling tools and excellent use of social media as a tool for journalism. Being competent in video and having video editing skills is also preferable.

What you need to know
