HSQE Manager

Minesto is one of the world’s leading developers of innovative tidal power technology.

The company was set up in 2007 to commercialise a tidal energy converter initially invented by SAAB AB (the aircraft manufacturer). Known as ‘Deep Green’, Minesto’s device is an underwater kite designed to generate electricity by capturing power from low velocity tides and ocean currents. The company is on track to deliver its first full-scale Deep Green array. This array will be installed off the coast of Anglesey and scaled up to full capacity from 2017 onwards. Minesto has set up a UK subsidiary to deliver the Deep Green array project.

Minesto have been awarded over €13m for the commissioning of the first full-scale power plant by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government. Minesto enjoys continued commitment from both industrial shareholders Midroc New Technology and Nordic equity firm BGA Invest.

The successful candidate will be joining a pioneering team in an emerging renewable energy sector with exceptional international market potential.

The Role

You will provide leadership, guidance and information on all aspects of health, safety, quality & environment to all levels of the company; ensuring that all staff are fully competent and receive continuous HSQE development and training. You will develop and implement a full HSQE system and procedures for all Minesto’s offshore and onshore operations at the Group level. This includes the onshore assembly hall and offshore site in Holyhead Deep Anglesey, the test site in Northern Ireland and the office and workshops in Sweden. You will also ensure continuous improvement across all sites’ and HSQE performance based on site inspections and audits. You will ensure that all personnel working at Minesto have adequate training and guidance to carry out their work safely and to ensure the safety of others, i.e. ensuring best practice throughout the business and to actively monitor and improve on the practices.  The role offers you an opportunity to become part of a strong and international team in a pioneering industry.

Responsibilities

Your overall responsibility is to develop and manage all HSQE activities at Minesto.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for HSQE across all of Minesto’s on and offshore operations.
• Develop, manage and implement HSQE procedures in line with industry standards ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS18001.
• Manage risk register for offshore operations.
• Coaching of onsite personnel to align to company policies and procedures.
• Raise safety awareness and ensure continuous improvement of the company’s safety culture.
• Highlight any adverse safety trends and ensure adequate safety campaigns are implemented to mitigate them.
• Ensure Minesto abides with EU and UK health and safety and environmental regulations at all times.

Your Profile, Experience and Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced, well-organised, and structured HSQE expert with good leadership skills. You will be able to handle complex tasks through thorough and precise communication and planning.

Key Qualifications & Experience

• Experience and the competence to manage HSQE in a constructive way to ensure safety and continually optimise procedures.
• Have a NEBOSH or similar level diploma or qualification.
• Member of a suitable professional body.
• Experience of implementing & managing industry standards.

Desirable

• Experience of HSQE in offshore as well as onshore engineering environments;

• Experience of HSQE in UK renewable energy, offshore wind, a large civil contractor, a major energy utility, or another relevant industry.
