Salary: £28,347 - £33,893 (sessional 40 weeks)

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.

St John Vianney is a denominational school serving the south east of the City.  Pupils are drawn mainly from the Inch, Craigour, Fernieside and Gilmerton areas. The management team comprises of the head teacher, depute head teacher, principal teacher and business manager. 

There are currently 10 classes and one nursery class.  In addition there is a learning support teacher, music, drama and PE specialist teachers and a brass instrumental instructor.  A team of administrative staff and pupils support assistants also support the school.

There is a Parent Council, 4 parent primary and nursery volunteer librarians and a number of parent volunteer helpers.  The school has close links with its parish communities at St Gregory’s and St John Viann

St Catherine's is a co-educational school situated in the Gracemount area of the City.  As a denominational school our catchement area is fairly wide and as well as attracting Catholic children we also have pupils from different faith backgrounds and none.  

At present the management team comprises of the head teacher, depute head teacher, principal teacher and business manager.  There are currently 7 classes and one nursery class who are supported by a learning support teacher.  There is a strong team of adminstrative and support staff.

There is an active Parent Council. We also enjoy close links with our parish of St Catherine's and work closely with the parish team and representatives.

At St Catherine's we aim to provide a high quality learning and teaching experience in a caring environment in which each child can feel happy, secure and respected as an indivudual and so develop educationally, socially and emotionally to the best of his/her ability.  We offer a broad curriculum in a variety of contexts to meet the needs of our pupils as they progress and develop in their learning.  The school works closely with families on an inter agency basis. 

St Catherine's is a vibrant school community and teaching staff are currently involved in a number of projects such as Health Promotion, ECO schools and Justice and Peace.  There are also working parties established to focus on SQIP development areas.  We have introduced to school additional professional sports specialists and music instrumentalist specialising in curricular activities and have a number of after school clubs.   We provide a number of specialist after school clubs.  The is a team of parent librarian volunteers running the school library service.  We have a pupil football team.

In recognition of our achievements and commitments the school has been awarded the Quality and Standards Award as well as its second Green Flag and Healthy Schools Stage 2 Award.  We are currently Edinburgh's Fairtrade School of the year.
