The Role A design engineering position for a confident and capable
Engineer. This person will be responsible for projects and assist as part of a team larger ones. He or she will be involved with all elements of the development process from concept through to production. Additionally they will be responsible for the production of prototype work as and when required by the new product development team.

Work Objectives To assist with the design and development of new products (approximately 75% of workload) and to efficiently deliver high quality prototypes when required by the team (25%).

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Produce concept designs based on new product specifications
2. Produce detailed product designs based on product specifications and fully compliant with all relevant safety standards, as defined in the specification
3. Design and carry out any tests and reliability trials required by new development projects
4. Produce CAD models, part and assembly drawings, bills of material, and all other documentation required for the manufacture of prototypes and production units
5. Control and liaise with external contractors and suppliers
6. Support production with introduction of new products
7. Support purchasing in selection and procurement of key components
8. Support all new product development projects by producing prototypes in a timely manner
9. Assist with the day-to-day management of the project to ensure key milestones are met
10. Assist with the creation and upkeep of the project technical construction files
11. Undertake any other work required to ensure the successful completion of projects


A working knowledge of the following would be advantageous

1. 2D and 3D CAD design using Autodesk Inventor or equivalent
2. Design of fabricated equipment
3. Knowledge of electric motor drive systems and controls
4. An understanding of electrical control systems
5. Strong problem solving and time management skills
6. Detailed knowledge of metal CAD/CAM software, preferably Radan
7. Practical experience of metal fabrication including, but not limited to, the following disciplines;
• CNC punching
• CNC bending and manual rolling
• Welding (MIG, TIG, spot welding)
• Finishing (cleaning, fettling, linishing, etc)
