Job purpose
The API Product Manager is responsible for defining and promoting the Avios API strategy within Avios and across IAG and our partners.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in product management involving APIs. The candidate has a working knowledge of API design, authentication technologies, developer portals and the challenges that large organisations are faced with. They must be self-sufficient, self-starting and can align and work closely with multiple internal partners across the business and IT on capability and roadmap planning to drive our API strategy forward.

The API Product Manager must be well-versed in the entire life-cycle of a digital product, from concept, to opportunity assessment, to requirement documents, feasibility assessments through execution.

Key role responsibilities
• Subject matter expert and product expert for APIs within AGL
• Gain a deep understanding of our business needs and market trends, through organisation wide interaction and consumption of our business strategy and annual plans.
• Owner of the overall API business strategy and roadmap, liaising with business and technical stakeholders, to support our long-term company vision
• Regularly reviewing the API business roadmap with key stakeholders through our API Business Governance processes.
• Setting product priorities, including new capabilities, enhancements and bug fixes
• Working with our IT department to own and create the business/product requirements documentation
• Managing feature iteration throughout the product lifecycle
• Ownership of business facing API documentation (ie - developer's site)
• Managing the promotion of our APIs and their capabilities across the business
• Working with 3rd parties to develop an API promotion programme externally including developing the products and content on our portal, hackathons, developer days, conferences

Key personal capabilities
• They will have excellent written and spoken communication skills - able to manage group prioritisation and deal with areas of conflict in an effective way.
• They will have already created an API roadmap and delivered that in a large organisation, ideally from zero to many APIs.
• They will be tenacious, indefatigable and accustomed to challenge
• They will be highly familiar with working with ambiguity
• They will be able to sell the benefits of digital innovation through the use of APIs, even to a sceptical audience
• Adept at demonstrating the value and return of digital investment, this person will be results-focussed.
• The successful person will be a "hands-on" character who continuously strives to hit milestones and targets
Skills, qualifications, expertise and experience
• The successful candidate would typically have over 5 years of experience in a product management role, ideally related to APIs.
• Experience across banking, loyalty and travel sectors is beneficial
• Relevant degree is desirable
• They may have further qualifications related to digital product management
