You will be qualified to HND or Degree level in an appropriate discipline or have considerable work experience in a similar position. You will also hold a current valid driving licence.
Working within the Environment team you will be responsible for a range of access related work, assisting with delivering the Council’s Access responsibilities.
This position is based in the north of Aberdeenshire. The post location is negotiable and will be discussed with the candidate at interview stage. This position is advertised as a 'flexible' post as detailed on the Worksmart website - http://worksmart.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/

To assist in the delivery of the Council’s access duties and responsibilities in the context of the Aberdeenshire Countryside Access Strategy.
• To deliver the Council’s access duties and responsibilities (currently under the Local Reform (Scotland) Act 2003) including the development of the Core Paths Plan for Aberdeenshire and participation in the Aberdeenshire Local Access Forum and its supporting groups
• To review and further develop the Aberdeenshire Countryside Access Strategy with other Services and agencies
• To assist in the development of local routes in and around the settlements of Aberdeenshire
• To coordinate, maintain and provide information on access related issues
• Provide advice and consultation responses in relation to the Access function of the Planning Policy and Environment Service
• Contribute to the continuous improvement and development of the team
• Present papers to Council Committees
• Experience of countryside access, ranger work, outdoor activities, environmental work, or land-based work - as employee, volunteer or participant
• Relevant HND or Degree (e.g. Recreational Land Management, Estate Management, or Environmental discipline), (e.g. ecology, geography, outdoor pursuits, etc) OR proven appropriate work experience (e.g. ranger, activities instructor, land manager, paths or access practitioner)
• Communication, liaison and negotiation skills
• Knowledge of Scottish access legislation and issues
• Knowledge of countryside/natural heritage
• Ability to work independently of supervision
• Map-reading, note-taking and IT ability
• Current valid driving licence
• Ability to access remote sites on foot is required, and also ability to attend evening/weekend meetings/events as required
• Ability to liaise effectively and calmly with a diverse public
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Work experience as access practitioner or as countryside ranger or in land management in Scotland
• Attendance at access or paths skills training courses and seminars organised by Scottish Natural Heritage, the Paths for All Partnership, or their equivalents elsewhere
Understanding of farming
• Experience of water activities (canoeing, sailing, etc)
• Experience of other outdoor activities e.g. horse-riding, walking
• Knowledge of path construction and maintenance
• Project management experience
• Knowledge of relevant safety issues
• Ability to motivate others
