Senior Highway Technician / Engineer
Telford, TF2

As our Senior Highway Technician / Engineer your role will involve:
It will be your responsibility as the Senior Highway Technician / Engineer to direct highway engineering functions in the field and office to include site management and the quality control of all project based subcontractors. You will ensure the safe, effective and professional service in accordance with the contract conditions and specifications. Your key responsibilities will include:
• Ensuring targets are met and that operations are carried out in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, procedures and codes of practice
• Assisting in analysing tenders, organise and chair prestart contract meetings with relevant stakeholders
• Effectively co-ordinating various project based operations and resources
• Ensuring targets are understood and met by our main subcontractors
• Interpreting plans and specifications, arrange/coordinate testing and inspection procedures
• Providing advice and estimates/target costings for capital projects
• Verifying contract quantities (BOQ’s) and payments
• Maintaining at all times open and effective communication lines with operational staff, management, clients and customers in a professional manner
• Ensuring that all site records are kept up to date and returned in time for financial evaluation, compiling invoices etc
To be our Senior Highways Technician / Engineer you will need effective leadership skills, a commitment and determination to meet personal objectives and the ability to work collaboratively at all levels. You should be confident in re-evaluating your priorities and your ability to manage third parties efficiently.
Our Senior Highway Technician / Engineer will need the following skills and experience:
• 5 GCSE’s A-C grade or equivalent
• Certificate in Civil Engineering
• Minimum HNC or equivalent
• Advanced knowledge of Highways Maintenance Construction & Civil Engineering
• Extensive site management experience
• Experience of managing a range of projects through to completion
• Experience of administering bills, payments and target costings
• Excellent communication and IT skills
• Able to write clear and concise reports
• Comfortable using your initiative
The following requirements are desirable, not essential:
• SMSTS certificate
• Business acumen
• Experience of working with the public
• HGV licence
