Senior Java Developer – Glasgow, Scotland - £50-65k plus benefits

The purpose of the role is to undertake the design, development and support of software for specific applications, including on-line, real-time and network systems. Developing components in Java, database design techniques and developing a variety of software applications. Its scope covers all aspects from detailed programming to high level system design from the concept or model stage through development, testing deployment and customer acceptance stage.

At this level, the jobholder will need to be an experienced individual who is fully competent within their own area and who acts as a key contributor in a complex/critical environment.  They will have depth of expertise in more than one area, applying their knowledge to a range of activities, and acting as a source of technical expertise to others.

Skills and Experience:

Minimum 5 years Java Development experience Knowledge of recognised development-related standards Experience with a modern Integrated Development Environment (IDE) such as Eclipse, Visual Studio

Experience with/exposure to web containers such as Apache Tomcat, JBoss, or IIS.

Experience of development using a relational database platform such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgresSQL

Experience in writing design documentation, method statements and user guides essential

Experience in creating clearly documented analysis, design and test specifications essential

Knowledge of recognized development-related standards (e.g. Web Services)

Development lifecycle experience – from problem statement through to release.

Understanding of common systems architectures
