Our client is a global leader in metal recycling employing 4500 staff across 170 locations around the world. They have unrivalled logistics capability, underpinned by a fleet of dedicated vehicles and planning / tracking systems. Their busy Transport Division is a high profile, varied working environment and pivotal to the success of the business.
They are now seeking a Transport Manager to join their team in Salford.
In this position, you’ll have the chance to help shape a determined team within a fast-paced and progressive environment.
Based from one of our client’s largest depots in Salford, as the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for transport operations throughout the North West. Specifically, you’ll oversee transport staff, drivers and vehicles, ensuring that all haulage activities are carried out in an efficient and timely manner.
A major focus of your role will be to deliver excellent customer service, leading by example and ensuring all customers have a great experience with the company.
Promoting a strong H&S culture, you’ll also motivate your team and encourage feedback, creativity and new ideas. You’ll plan, organise and manage employees’ workloads to maximise productivity.
You will also be expected to carefully analyse expenditure and finance information, developing appropriate plans, policies and budgets to reduce costs. Additionally, you’ll liaise with Fleet Engineering to ensure cost-effective servicing and repairs.
As part of your role, you’ll be required to travel within the UK.
To be considered, you must have:
- Previous general transport management experience
- Experience of managing a team of transport staff and vehicles across several sites
- A proven track record of ensuring cost effective purchasing and monitoring of spend
- A standard national or international Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
- Strong leadership skills
As the Transport Manager, you must have excellent problem-solving and team building skills. You must also be methodical and analytical with strong planning abilities.
Experience of routing vehicles within the North West would be beneficial although not essential. Any previous safety training, such as a NEBOSH certificate would also be advantageous, as would a valid LGV Class C or C+E licence. A vehicle mechanic qualification would be equally favourable.
