EXETER & EAST DEVON MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Mental Health Services in Exeter & East Devon following expansion and development of our local services.

The services currently consist of St Andrew's in Exmouth (6 Care Unit beds and 11 supported accommodation beds), Alternative to Care (A2C) in Exeter (8 supported accommodation beds across 2 properties), Floating Support Services across Exeter & East Devon and an Education, Training & Employment project providing volunteering and job opportunities for clients.

St Andrew's House is a service that specialises in working with people with mental health difficulties.

We have a dedicated support team who provide recovery-focused support to our clients in addressing identified support needs and empowering them to work in a recovery focused way that will enable them to progress to future independent living.

In line with assisting people to successfully move-on, a floating support service was developed initially by staff at St Andrew's.

The floating support service has rapidly expanded within the last 24 months and we are currently providing in excess of 190 hours community-based support for 31 clients and we now receive referrals from other providers and Exeter and East Devon Mental Health Teams.

The team now consists of a Floating Support Co-ordinator and 3 full-time Floating Support Workers and we are now looking to recruit additional staff members to join our dedicated team to provide assessment, monitoring, support planning and advocacy for our clients within the community.

This post is advertised as an Occupational Requirement under the Equality Act 2010.  Due to the nature of the clients who would be assigned to the successful candidate, we are currently seeking a female worker.  This is due to a range of reasons including client history, needs, risk assessments or purely client preference.

We are, however, also looking to grow a Relief Bank of Floating Support Workers who can assist with new referrals and / or provide cover during periods of staff absences. We are seeking both male and female workers so we would welcome applications from individuals who are interested in joining our Relief Bank also.

The successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Effectively managing an assigned caseload of clients in the community; contingent on needs, strengths, abilities and preferences of the clients of the service. ·Providing assessment, monitoring, support planning, linkage and advocacy for clients involved in the service.
  • Possessing a clear understanding of the service delivery and resources available for those clients who experience mental health issues.

Candidates will need a patient and calm professional manner and a fair and non-discriminatory, non-judgemental approach.Proven experience of working with clients with mental health difficulties and who are difficult to engage is essential, as are good I.C.T., administration and communication skills.Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings, weekends and possible sleep-in shifts will be required, as is the ability to travel effectively within the geographical location of East Devon.

A Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Certificate will be required for this role.

As an equal opportunities employer, Chapter 1 welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
