The School of Engineering and Built Environment is looking to appoint a Grade 7 Lecturer in Electrical Power Engineering for a fixed-term of 6 months to cover maternity leave.

The Department brings together an exciting blend of skills and expertise in the development and delivery of industrially relevant undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study and establishing an excellent track record in sustaining and growing research and knowledge transfer links with Industry. The successful candidate will be part of a vibrant team contributing to all levels of teaching and research within the subject area.

 

The main purpose of this role is to develop and deliver a high quality education and student experience and to contribute to the sustainability and enhancement of knowledge transfer activities of the Department.

 

Applicants should have a postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or nearing completion of a doctorate in a relevant subject area. You should have prior academic experience, or, substantial relevant industrial experience working in a technical role. Experience of applied research or systems development, and a strong personal desire and commitment to engage in innovative teaching and delivering research and/or consultancy/CPD services are essential.

Main purpose of the role

The main purpose of this role is to deliver high quality teaching and learning and to contribute to the development and delivery of undergraduate courses, the creation of e-learning and blended teaching resources and the supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate students.



Accountabilities/Responsibilities of the role
  1. To contribute to the delivery of innovative undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Electrical Power Engineering.
  2. To support the School in sustaining it’s national and international profile in Electrical Power Engineering.
  3. Develop, and deliver a range of teaching materials for study at various levels of programmes of study.
  4. Contribute to the development and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and skills to promote student application and cognitive development. Including the development and introduction of blended learning and E-learning enhancements to the curriculum.
  5. Review and update teaching material and ensure curricula are underpinned with appropriate research.
  6. Apply appropriate quality standards and measurements to teaching activities and learning outcomes.
  7. Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate student projects.
  8. To actively contribute to the promotion of relevant careers and initiatives that enhance the employability of the School’s students.
  9. Responsible for the management, implementation and compliance with Health and Safety regulations, standards and processes within your area of responsibility and control.
  10. Any other tasks appropriate to the post and in line with Department/School business needs.


Person specification

Educational and/or Professional Qualifications

E1 - Post graduate degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering (or currently studying towards this level of qualification)

D1 - Holds or is working towards a post graduate teaching certificate and FHEA.

D2 - Membership of a relevant professional society or body (e.g. IET, IEEE) and is working towards CEng.

Experience

E2 - Previous experience and excellence of teaching within a University environment demonstrating ability to develop teaching materials and assessment strategies. This should include the development and introduction of blended learning and E-learning enhancements to the curriculum.

E3 - Proficient in the use of design and modelling tools relevant to the subject area.

E4 - In depth knowledge and appropriate expertise in Electrical Engineering and Power Systems Engineering.

D3 - Evidence of post-doctoral applied research experience or substantial relevant industrial experience working in a technical role.

D4 - Evidence of high quality research outputs.

D5 - Previous supervision of postgraduate research projects (e.g. MPhil and PhD).

D6 - Knowledge of online platforms such as Moodle and Blackboard and, the creation of e-learning media using tools such as Camtasia.
