The South-west specialist nursing provider is looking for a part-time gardener to join their team in Wellington Somerset for 22 hours per month. You will ideally have experience in a similar setting although this is not essential and be sympathetic to the needs of those with dementia and general nursing.

Job Requirements

Job summary:

- Responsible for the general maintenance of the grounds, and gardens, at the Home.

Main duties:

- To carry out numerous gardening duties, requiring a minimum amount of supervision.
- Soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, bed preparation and planting.
- Lawn maintenance and cultivation.
- The use and maintenance of hand tools and basic light machinery.
- The use of cylinder and rotary mowers, strimmers, leaf blowers.
- Adjustments of mower height and quality of cut, etc. Oil level checks and checks for damage to any mower.
- To ensure all equipment, machinery and buildings are secure.
- To keep the tool shed/mess room clean and tidy.
- To keep the borders,thoroughfares and highway footpaths clear and free from litter at all times.
- To empty litter bins around the school.
- To respond to emergency calls.
- To carry out gritting, salt spreading, snow clearing around the school.
- Assist with the erection and dismantling of sports equipment.
- Assist with the initial marking and over marking of the sport pitches, running tracks, field events.
- Prepare and plant rockeries,herbaceous borders and shrubberies.
- Carry out car parking duties as required.

Health & Safety
- Understand and ensure the implementation of the schools Health & Safety policy, and emergency Fire procedures.
- Report any faulty appliances, damaged equipment or any potential hazard.
- Promote safe working practices within the school.

General
- Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Home.
- Notify the Facilities Manager as soon as possible if you are unable to attend work.
- Ensure the security of the school is maintained.
- Carry out any other duties commensurate with the post.
