Job Description

Background Note on West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust

West Dunbartonshire Leisure is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. In addition to being regulated by the Companies Act (1985), the company is also subject to the charities regulator in Scotland, OSCR (Office of Scottish Charity Regulator).

The company was incorporated in December 2011 and started trading in April 2012 and is responsible for the strategic and operational management of West Dunbartonshire Council’s Sport and Leisure Facilities; Community Facilities; Sports Development; Active Schools; and Outdoor Events.

Due to the recent resignation of an Independent Director we are now seeking to appoint one Independent Director to the Board.

To be considered for appointment as an Independent Director you should be knowledgeable in leisure services and/or skilled in a profession (company law or marketing would be desirable) or other capacity that will add value and support to Board decision making.

You are unable to apply for this appointment if you cannot comply with Companies Legislation or are a West Dunbartonshire Council Employee not nominated by employees to represent them.

The new PVG scheme replaces enhanced disclosures when undertaking work with Children or Vulnerable Adults. This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Further details of this scheme can be found here. Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants are, therefore, not statutorily entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are "spent" under the provisions of the Act. In the event of employment any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action.
