A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Biologist/Life Scientist to join UK’s leading specialist in pest control as a trainee Industrial Pest Control Biologist. Based in Manchester, West Yorkshire or the Merseyside area, the successful Biological Scientist will earn a starting salary of £19,000 pa + car and benefits. Full training is provided. The salary will increase as training is completed and professional qualifications achieved. 

The market-leading company specialise in pest management, and remain small enough to be personal but big enough to provide the professional skills and back-up needed by the staff in their sector. They continue to develop an excellent reputation in the food industry and offer a bespoke pest management solution and consultancy service to the food industry. The company work in an environmentally responsible manner using organic methods where ever possible. Reporting to the Managing Director, the role of the Biological Scientist will be: 
  • To be able identify a wide range of pest species, know and understand their environmental preferences and life cycles and relate these to the manufacturing environment. 
  • To determine the current levels of pest activity throughout our client’s site (both internal and external), especially in less accessible areas such as voids and cable runs, where pests are more likely to be established 
  • To inspect/audit manufacturing plant during shutdown periods, particularly when commodities are being handled or processed that are vulnerable to infestation by stored product insects (e.g. flour silos)  
  • To design control strategies that involve environmental management as the primary method of control as well as the use of pesticides when necessary. 
  • To manage and implement those strategies with site management and the pest control team. 
  • To review all pest control related documentation and ensure it complies with approved codes of practice and regulation. 
  • To suggest alternative approaches to resolving problems, particularly with regards to environmental controls. 
  • To liaise with senior site management in the implementation of control strategies. 
  • To provide pest awareness training sessions to client’s staff

The successful candidate will be a quick thinker and have the ability to be able communicate at all levels. In addition, you will also possess the following skills and experience: 
  • Full EU driving licence 
  • Computer literate with specific experience in Excel and Word 
  • Fluent in English both written and verbal
