HR Wallingford is a world-leading research and consultancy organisation. From flooding to shipping, offshore energy to climate change, we advise clients worldwide how to manage their interactions with the water environment. We provide analysis, advice and support in engineering and environmental hydraulics, and in the management of water and the water environment.

We are looking for someone to join our physical modelling lab as a Workshop Assistant. The team maintains and runs the all the infrastructure, workshops and engineering associated with our world class hydraulic test facilities at Howbery Park  – these support the commercial testing and research work of our teams of talented engineers and scientists. Descriptions of the facilities can be found on our website: http://www.hrwallingford.com/facilities/physical-modelling

You can see examples of the work of the Group and the production of a physical model on our You Tube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6HIT_ak-5fFuCSsP-5500A  .

The Workshop Assistant will work with our technicians to support the ever changing demands of our engineers and scientists - no two projects are ever the quite same. Tasks will involve everything from helping clean the workshops and maintain the modelling halls, to  basic carpentry and metal work, painting and assembling models, distributing/maintaining equipment and instrumentation, assisting with goods in/out, maintaining the asset and stock registers.

A positive, “can do” attitude, attention to detail and the ability to follow both verbal and written instructions are essential. Any experience with wood/metal working/mechanical maintenance would be advantageous. You will be reliable and able to act on your own initiative.

HR Wallingford is committed to recruiting and retaining staff of the highest calibre. We offer a stimulating working environment and competitive salaries commensurate with experience and an excellent benefits package that includes a minimum 10 per cent employer contribution to the defined contribution pension scheme and permanent health insurance.
