Principal Teacher, Parkhead Primary School, 35 hours per week, closing date 23rd October 2016

Parkhead Primary School is a non-denominational school which is part of the West Calder High School cluster. The school serves the community of West Calder, Polbeth and the surrounding rural areas and offers:

  •  a 40/30 nursery class for ante-pre and pre-school children
  • 14 classes from primary 1 through to primary 7
  • The school management team currently consists of the head teacher, a depute head teacher and 1 principal teacher. The school shares a business support manager with the other schools in the West Calder High School cluster.

There are 20 members of teaching staff, including the nursery teacher and the support for learning teacher. This also includes a number of part-time staff. There are specialists in PE and Art, a brass and woodwind instructor, 3 full-time nursery nurses, and a team of 6 pupil support workers.

The school works very effectively with the other schools in the cluster. Parkhead has earned a very good reputation within the community and is well supported by the parent forum, including a very active parent council and parent staff association. The parent council works in close partnership with the school and provides support in identifying areas for improvement. There are well-developed and mutually successful and supportive partnerships with the local community, in a wide variety of contexts.

Our priorities for session 2016 – 17 are:

Raise attainment in Numeracy through Growth Mind-set approaches

Develop a whole school culture which promote the well-being of all

  • Develop pupil profiling in nursery using online Learning Journals
  • Develop a whole school approach to profiling based on current best practice
  • Further embed the principles and practice from Building the Ambition document and share best practice – what works
  • Maintain and further develop 1+2
  • Moderation of levels to ensure consistency at individual school level and across the cluster
  • Achieve School sports Award – go for Gold level
  • School to work towards achievement of level 2 accreditation and have RRS embedded in the school through work of the impact group
  • We are looking to recruit an additional Principal Teacher to be part of our team and move the school forward.
