Working Pattern: 21 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (Fife wide but currently based in central area of Fife. Actual days to be discussed and agreed with successful applicant)

As a member of the school community, the role of the Instrumental Instructor is to lead learning for, and with, all learners with whom they engage and also to work with and support the development of colleagues and other partners and work to the benefit of the pupils, their parents and the community the school serves, through pursuing the objectives and implementing policies set by the Music Co-ordinator and Fife Council Education Children’s’ Service, under the overall direction of the Executive Director of Education and Children’s services.
The successful candidate will work in Primary and Secondary Schools teaching Lower Strings (cello/double bass/bass guitar) with pupils both individually and in groups The successful candidate may also be invited to assist with Fife Music Activity group rehearsals.
Fife Council pays the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate to employees earning less than £8.33 per hour. If the hourly rate of pay for the post is less than the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate a supplement will be paid.
Candidates should hold a recognised qualification in music and should have experience in teaching instrumental music: alternatively, candidates should be able to demonstrate a good awareness of the skills required to teach and work with children.
Candidates should be able to offer at least two of the following disciplines – Cello, Double Bass and Bass Guitar.
Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Membership through Disclosure Scotland.
The Instrumental Instructor shall be accountable to the Music Co-ordinator and, when in schools, the Headteacher, and Education and Children’s Services and for the following list of duties and for such other duties as can reasonably be attached to the post. In carrying out these duties the Instructor will be responsible for:
• selecting pupils for instruction in accordance with operational policy and teaching pupils individually and in groups
• preparing pupils for all levels of examination offered at National Qualifications by Scottish Qualifications Authority and, where appropriate, similar external exams
• reporting to and liaising with schools and parents on progress and development of pupils
• leading or assisting with school music making activities
• Planning coherent, progressive and stimulating instrumental programmes which match learners’ needs and abilities
• Employing a range of teaching strategies and resources to meet the needs and abilities of learners
• Developing positive relationships and positive behaviour strategies
Fife Council is looking to recruit a talented and committed Lower Strings Instrumental instructor who is willing to apply new learning with enthusiasm. They should be confident and able to demonstrate they are an innovative practitioner, possessing strong interpersonal skills, with a commitment to the vision, values and core priorities in the development of education, teaching and learning which meets the needs of all pupils.
The successful applicant will have knowledge of the relevant curriculum areas and their developments and be able to demonstrate a range of teaching strategies, associated with the raising of attainment. They will demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles of assessment and be committed to the pursuit of excellence in educational standards and quality.
The successful applicant will offer at least two of the following disciplines – CELLO / DOUBLE BASS / BASS GUITAR.
