Curator ad Litem and Reporting Officers

We are offering an exciting opportunity for professional individuals with a keen interest in safeguarding the lifelong interests of children. The new Joint Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian Panel Joint Scheme Group of Curators ad Litem and Reporting Officers is looking to appoint individuals (in the region of 20) who have demonstrable track record/ experience in Petitions involving adoption or permanence under the Adoption and (Scotland) Act 2007, or in this general field of work.
Both roles will involve you working independently within sensitive situations and using your excellent interpersonal and communication skills to accurately interpret complex situations. You will be required to gather and assess information and be responsible for the preparation of comprehensive reports to the Sheriff Court.
This is a Public Office Holder appointment and we need to get the right individuals on board who can offer the skills, competencies and experience needed to provide a professional assessment, analysis and recommendation to the Court on the child’s welfare and the Petition. While these are two distinct roles an individual can act in both capacities and both are fundamental to the success of the newly established Joint Scheme.
Appointment to the Panel is for a period of 1 year and remuneration of fees and expenses is paid at the rates stated within the Contractual Terms and Conditions or as determined by the Court on cause being shown.
We welcome interest from enthusiastic individuals who have a genuine interest in joining our Panel and who are keen to fulfil the duties of the roles. To be appointed you will hold one of the following professional qualifications:
I. Solicitor or Solicitor Advocate, holding a current practising certificate from the Law Society of Scotland with a minimum of 5 years demonstrable experience in Family Law and working with children and their parents and carers (including Adoption and long term substitute care arrangements).
II. Advocate, practising Member of the Faculty of Advocates with a minimum of 5 years demonstrable experience in Family Law and working with children and their parents and carers (including Adoption and long term substitute care arrangements).
III. Social Worker, holding a registration with the Scottish Social Services Council with a minimum of 5 years demonstrable experience working with children and their parents and carers (including Adoption and long term substitute care arrangements).
Interviews are due to take place on or around the week of 31 October 2016. Shortlisted candidates will be notified of the exact interview date/s.
