Job Description – Key responsibilities
The Senior Policy Manager will support the Director of Privacy in the development and delivery of the GSMA’s global privacy advocacy strategy and other areas of consumer and regulatory affairs as needed. They will:
- Monitor legal, regulatory, technology, industry and consumer sentiment developments in privacy and consumer protection areas to help GSMA assess risks and trends and determine priorities
- Conduct research and provide detailed analysis and assessment of key areas of public policy and their impact on GSMA members and the industry in general
- Work with GSMA members and representative office teams to establish and promote GSMA positions on privacy, document and draft position papers and respond to consultations
- Collaborate with GSMA Programmes and other internal teams to support their projects with privacy and policy expertise and analysis
- Train staff on the GSMA’s approach to privacy and other consumer affairs matters
- Maintain materials and content for and deliver Capacity Building training to regulators and stakeholders on privacy and data protection
- Represent the organization at GSMA working groups and task forces and at external fora and conferences
Required Skills & Experience This role requires the ability to work on highly complex regulatory issues. The right candidate will be able to draw on a solid foundation of privacy and regulatory expertise and industry knowledge, augmented by the ability to rapidly adapt to different cultures and engage effectively with governments and policymakers. Specifically:
- University Degree
- be a member of privacy association
- have worked in telecommunications
- have worked for a management consultancy
- have Information Security experience
- have either regulatory or legal background or preferably both
- experience in internet and privacy policies and issues
- experience of privacy regulation essential
- solid understanding of telecoms sector and the wider digital ecosystem
- experience of engaging with regulators, legislators, policy makers and government representatives and very comfortable in influencing and quickly establishing relationships with a wide variety of senior stakeholders
- established network of relevant contacts
- excellent communicator, able to express complex regulatory, technical or commercial in plain language, without losing the important points
- strong analytical skills and the ability to identify regulatory issues quickly and effectively
- excellent written skills, for producing public reports, policy documents, blog posts and research
- excellent cultural awareness and a team player, being able to effectively connect together a wide group of internal GSMA resources and support their work
- a self-starter, highly motivated and able to determine own priorities and work remotely
- highly mobile and willing to travel internationally
- ability to speak Spanish at a business level
