The outsourced catering department of this leading independent boarding school, which serves around 1200 meals a day, is seeking an experienced, talented and enthusiastic Sous chef. Reporting directly to the Head Chef, you will prepare, cook and present food to the highest standards maintaining a clean, tidy, safe and pleasant environment. You will deputise for the Head Chef in his absence, managing a kitchen brigade of five. As a main part of the role is to carry out online ordering, stocktaking, food costing and other administrative duties you must be able to demonstrate good numeracy and literacy skills.
You will have a minimum of three years’ experience of working in a busy kitchen operation including experience of supervising a team. You will have good people skills and a passion about food and customer service. You will also have appropriate qualifications (City and Guilds 706/1 & 2 or SVQ equivalents) and a Food Hygiene Certificate.
We will pay an annual salary of £20,000. You will work 43 weeks a year (35 weeks during term time and 8 weeks during holiday lets). You will therefore benefit from 9 weeks of holidays each year. You will work a basic 40 hour week, working straight shifts. Uniforms and meals whilst on duty will be provided free of charge. A Protecting Vulnerable Groups check at enhanced level will be made on the successful candidate and evidence will be required to prove the right to work in the UK.
