Due to continuing business success and growth we now have a fantastic opportunity available for a Leachate Technician to join our team in Liskeard on a fixed term 18-month contract.

Leachate Technician responsibilities:
  • Ensuring the allocated Leachate Treatment Plant(s) operate safely, effectively and in compliance with the Site Permit and Trade Effluent Discharge consent.
  • Taking and/or receiving samples from the LTP and analyse them to ensure the biological treatment is operating at it maximum effectiveness.
  • Receiving and interpreting both 3rd Party and in-house laboratory analytical results to ensure that all plant(s) are working to maximum effectiveness.
  • Ensuring the onsite leachate control systems operate effectively, feeding the plant as required whilst maintaining compliant levels on site
  • Reporting any non-conformances in compliance or operation of the plant to the relevant Site Management.
  • Investigating any non-conformances and report the outcome to the relevant Sites Management.
  • Completing reports and statutory returns as required by the Environment Agency or local Water Authority.
  • Undertaking sampling and testing of leachate from arrival at the plant to final effluent discharge as required to maintain compliance.
  • Ensuring all equipment assigned to the Leachate/LTP operation ant post is correctly maintained and calibrated.
  • Ensuring routine and preventative maintenance is undertaken on the plant as detailed in the manufactures instructions, plant operating procedures and in Holistech.
  • Supervising and control internal and external personnel (including contractors and hired staff) working on Leachate Treatment Plant(s).
  • Providing routine monitoring, fault-finding and troubleshooting skills to the sites landfill gas fields and acting on information received, maintain operational efficiency including the implementation of short-term remedial measures.
  • Capable of carrying out landfill gas installation and maintenance works on site, either as part of a team or working with minimal supervision
  • Helping to develop plant budgets and control expenditure associated with the operation of the plant.
  • Implementing central purchasing of services and goods where this will be advantageous to the cost effectiveness of the plant.
  • Preparing reports as required on the performance of the Leachate Treatment Plant(s) and associated leachate management systems, providing recommendations and cost implications if required.
  • Keeping up to date with the technical developments in the scope of the role and with the legal and environmental obligations at the designated site.
  • Adopting a flexible attitude towards work where on occasion the post holder may be requested to assist operations outside normal working hours or undertake onsite practical work.
The ideal Leachate Technician:
  • HNC or equivalent in science or environmental studies
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Proven knowledge of the biological treatment of liquid effluent
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices
  • Ability to produce accurate factual reports
  • Ability to manipulate and interrogate numerical data, and identify trends
