Duration: Permanent, Full-timeBased in the iconic Marischal College in the heart of the city, Aberdeen City Council Trading Standards Service serves a population of over 200,000 consumers and hundreds of businesses each having their own demands on our time and resources. Our principal role is to enforce consumer and trading standards law and advise business on compliance and it’s no small challenge. In the last year we have investigated allegations of supplying counterfeit goods & tobacco, property misdescriptions, product safety, misleading pricing, and various other consumer frauds and scams. In addition, we take part in joint working with other enforcement agencies, meet the requirements of the Scottish Government’s tobacco enforcement programme and ensure high risk businesses are inspected.
We’re looking to recruit an Enforcement Officer, who will hold a Diploma in Consumer Affairs (DCA), Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards (DCATS), or equivalent. You will have experience of working with the public, be able to communicate effectively and work as part of a team or unsupervised as required.
You will also be challenged to develop your skills and expertise further and be encouraged to take the lead role in investigations and, where required, particular areas of work.

Diploma in Consumer Affairs (DCA) or the Diploma in Consumer and Trading Standards (DCATS) qualification which includes modules in Criminal & Civil Fair Trading, at least one from Product Safety; Intellectual Property; Consumer Credit, and one other module.
Full, current UK driving licence.
PVG Membership for Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults or willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.
The post holder must be prepared to:
Work outwith normal working hours where required
Lift and carry equipment or evidence up to a weight of 20kg
Job Specific Requirements:

Ability to take initiative and to develop work practices, policies and procedures.
Ability to advise on varied circumstances to a range of audiences including individuals at all levels or the organisation, business and general public

Ability to manage and diffuse potentially challenging situations
