We are looking for a Communication Support Worker to join our established Deaf Services team.

About the Role

The post will involve working with Deaf and hearing impaired students, some with additional disabilities.

As a Communication Support Worker, you will provide support for Deaf and hearing-impaired students in classes, tutorials and meetings. The role includes note taking, preparing resources and transcriptions.

Under the direction of the CSW Coordinator and Tutor of Deaf, you will maintain, monitor and evaluate the level of support required and the methods of implementing this. As part of your role, you will liaise between students, tutors and peer groups to facilitate successful integration and provide students with support during all curriculum linked activities.

You will need to hold or be working towards a Level 3 qualification in British Sign Language; we will also consider candidates with a Level 3 Note taking or Communication Support Worker qualification. Successful candidates will require Level 2 in Maths, English and ICT. It is essential that you can demonstrate experience of working with Deaf and hearing-impaired learners, ideally in a post sixteen educational environment. You should also have a good understanding of Deaf culture and issues.
