Based in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, our client is a further education college that offers a wide range of courses including Full-Time, Part-Time, Apprenticeships and University Level. They aim to give all students an exceptional experience.

They believe in excellence and back that up with high standards, real working environments and great teaching. They also believe that attending college is about more than achieving a qualification, important though that is. That is why they aim to give every person the opportunity to develop their full potential in a supportive and friendly environment.

They currently have an opportunity available for a Progress Tutor to join them to proactively engage with students to ensure full participation in College life.

Delivering a group tutorial programme to develop students’ employability skills and enhance their personal and social development, you will assist with career management and making applications to higher education or further training whilst participating in the delivery of careers education across the College.  You must carry out 1:1 tutorials with students to monitor their academic progress and social development, ensuring that they are aware of (and make effective use of) Learner Voice, Student Union, Enrichment activities and the support available through Student Services and that you provide impartial advice and guidance on education, training opportunities, careers and progression support.

To be successful in this role candidates must have experience of successfully working with and engaging young people from a wide range of background abilities, of making appropriate referrals for welfare support and of advocating and negotiating on complex issues relating to students.  Able to work independently and as a team member without close supervision, you must be able to communicate effectively and successfully engage with young people and ideally have experience of supporting students with the UCAS process and progression opportunities.

An appropriate Level 4 qualification (Advice and Guidance, Counselling, Youth Work or other teaching qualification) is essential.
