An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Health Advisor within an established occupational health team based at the Cumbria Fire and Rescue Headquarters in Penrith. The successful candidate will manage a designated service area, working alongside the Occupational Health Service Manager to provide an efficient and effective Occupational Health Service, earning up to £36,019 per annum with an additional £2,400 annual market supplement.

The Occupational Health service provides organisational and individual advice on all aspects of occupational health. The service will provide statutory health surveillance, opinions on fitness for work and rehabilitation, as well as advice on legal compliance in occupational health matters, both in relation to health and safety legislation and the Equalities Act.

We are looking for a registered nurse, with a post graduate specialist qualification degree or diploma, who would ideally be registered on part 3 of the NMC register. We would also consider a development opportunity for a qualified nurse to develop a career in occupational health. The starting salary as an Occupational Health Nurse would be £27,394 to £28,203 per annum.

Our Occupational Health Advisor will contribute to service development and planning, deputising in the absence of the Occupational Health Service Manager in the day to day running of the department. You will also provide specialist expert occupational health advice, reports and recommendations to managers and employees.

The successful candidate will provide specialist and expert Occupational Health advice to managers and employees, ensuring compliance with relevant EU legislation to develop the best practice for promoting the health and wellbeing of all employees. This will all be done whist maintaining a confidential, secure, accurate and relevant records system that complies with current legislation and best practice.

As valued members of our multidisciplinary occupational health team, you will play an important role in the undertaking of manager referrals, pre-employment health screening and medicals, health surveillance, immunisations and the delivery of health promotion programmes.  You will assist the team in the on-going provision of a comprehensive and pro-active Occupational Health Service to our customers.

Our Occupational Health Advisor will also be required to assist in training other colleagues on all aspects of health and well-being whilst adhering to the principles of clinical governance, clinical supervision and clinical audit and work within the NMC competency guidelines.

The successful candidates will benefit from the flexible working opportunity offered which acknowledges that flexible working and work-life balance is important to employees and the organisation.  We would welcome full-time or part-time applications from candidates who are able to travel throughout Cumbria and working some evenings, providing an ‘on call’ service.
