An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Health Service Manager within an established occupational health team based at the Cumbria Fire and Rescue Headquarters in Penrith. The successful candidate will lead an efficient and effective professional Occupational Health Service for the benefit of the multi-disciplinary workforce of the County Council and will earn up to £41,511 per annum.

The Occupational Health service provides organisational and individual advice on all aspects of occupational health. The service will provide statutory health surveillance, opinions on fitness for work and rehabilitation, as well as advice on legal compliance in occupational health matters, both in relation to health and safety legislation and the Equalities Act.

We are looking for a registered nurse, with a post graduate specialist qualification degree or diploma, who would ideally be registered on part 3 of the NMC register. You will have significant experience in the delivery of occupational health activities and will ideally have experience of managing an occupational health service.

Promoting the health, safety and welfare of all employees and contributing to the overall wellbeing agenda for the County Council, our Occupational Health Service Manager will effectively manage the delivery and performance of the Council’s Occupational Health Service. You will play an important role undertaking of confidential medical screening tests for current and prospective employees, whilst also monitoring and managing the services of other health professionals as appropriate - providing the best advice and services to support employees and managers alike.

As a valued member of our multidisciplinary occupational health team you will develop the occupational health and fitness service strategies, policies and procedures to promote and maintain a healthy and efficient workforce. This will be done in line with current legislation and in partnership with Public Health and Health & Safety, analysing the demographic data of the workforce to plan for future occupational health requirements.

Managing, motivating and contributing to the development of other employees within the occupational health team our Occupational Health Service Manager will train and develop other members of staff, adhering to the principles of clinical governance, clinical supervision and clinical audit and work within the NMC competency guidelines.

Our Occupational Health Service Manager will have the following qualifications and experience:

- First level registration (RGN)

- Occupational Health Diploma/certificate

- Audiometry, spirometry and vision screening competency

- HAVS and vaccination competency

- Considerable experience of working in an Occupational Health Environment

- Knowledge and experience of health and safety legislation and compliance.
