The Organisation:

Aviva Premiership rugby side Newcastle Falcons is England's most northerly top flight club and the only professional rugby side in Newcastle. Now based at the city's Kingston Park Stadium, Newcastle Falcons was originally founded in 1877 as Gosforth Football Club. The club is steeped in rugby history with many past and current players representing their respective nations.

You will be part of the Club's Senior Management Team and will be responsible for overseeing Finance for Newcastle Falcons, Newcastle Thunder and the Falcons Community Foundation (registered charity).

The Role:

• This is a Head of Finance position, with a primary focus to provide sound financial advice to the Chairman, Managing Director and other Senior Management colleagues;
• Secondary will be to provide an effective financial management service to the company;
• You will ensure that the organisation complies with company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations including but not limited to Premiership Rugby Limited, the RFU and various competition authorities;
• To ensure the financial stability of the organisation and that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs;
• You will maintain records to meet legal and tax requirement and to measure both the inputs and the outcomes of the company's operations;
• Make appropriate recommendations and advising of the impact on the business;
• Provide accounting services for use by managers in planning and controlling the work of the business including payroll, financial accounting, management, accounting, forecasting, budgeting and control & governance systems;
• Ensure timely preparation of the statutory annual accounts;
• Keep abreast of financial developments across the sector by liaising with senior finance staff in other rugby clubs;
• Forecast and budgeting for Newcastle Falcons, Newcastle Thunder and Falcons Community Foundation;
• Produce Monthly Management Accounts for all three business sections;
• Manage Cash flow, P&L and Balance Sheet. Debtors & Creditors, Bank Reconciliations;
• Monthly Payroll (Falcons oversee) (Thunder produce);

The Individual:

• Be a qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA);
• Have proven stakeholder engagement with an ability to work closely with Department Heads;
• Have proven analytical approach and be a strong team player, able to build strong working relationships;
• Working knowledge of Pegasus Opera III / Xero / XLs Forecasting is an advantage but not essential;
• First-hand experience of planning, budgeting and forecasting;
• Used to working in fast moving environments providing accurate and timely information to a high standard and tight deadlines;
• Lead and motivate an accounts department that manages the finances of the Commercial, Rugby, Retail, Conference & Events, Marketing and Community aspects of the business
