Speech and Language Therapist

Cawston, Norwich, Norfolk

Salary  Band 6 - £26,041 to £34,876 pro rata DOE together with an excellent training programme and a commitment to ongoing personal development.

Hours  18.75 – 22.5 per week (days and times to be agreed).


Our Client is looking for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our dedicated Psychology and Therapies team at our Hospital in Cawston on a part time basis.

Job Description

  • To promote health and wellbeing including health promotion and to raise awareness of communication impairments.

  • To be responsible for the management of a defined caseload in patients with acquired disorders (communication and dysphagia).

This includes:

  • To assess and diagnose conditions and to plan and implement Speech and Language Therapy care packages and discharge appropriately.

  • To monitor and evaluate programmes of care.

  • To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of patients with communication and swallowing difficulties

  • To liaise with professional colleagues.

  • To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence based practice and outcome measures.

  • To independently attend case conferences/reviews.

  • To produce, with support, reports regarding patients’ needs and proposed care plans.

  • To adapt practice to meet individual patients’ circumstances, with due regard for cultural, linguistic, sociological and physiological factors.

  • To ensure that patients are involved in the planning and prioritisation of their care plans wherever possible.

  • To participate in the training and supervision of others, including students

Candidate Requirements:

  • To have gained a RCSLT recognised Degree in Speech and Language Therapy.

  • To develop knowledge in clinical area, underpinned by current evidence based practice

  • To manage caseload with support from the Line Manager.

  • To develop the skill of making clinical decisions following assessment of complex cases.

  • To identify personal/professional development evidenced by personal/professional log, developed within the appraisal framework, including objectives relating to clinical area.

  • To participate in the development of hospital policies, procedures and clinical guidelines taking into account evidence based best practice.

  • To   participate in Performance and Development Review, ensuring that the objectives set reflect JCP priorities and service plans, including specific objectives relating to the clinical area.

  • To provide clinical/technical skills for interpretative assessment techniques and interventions relevant to clinical caseload.

  • To attend relevant training and development courses (including special interest groups and peer networks) to develop skills and knowledge required of post held and clinical area

  • To be flexible and adaptable and undertake any other appropriate roles and responsibilities as requested and required. The nature of the business may also require that the post holder works additional hours as required.
