Accounts Assistant
An opportunity has arisen for an individual to join an innovative accountancy, advisory and business services company, which provides support to SME companies as an extension to their in-house teams. The company operates in a creative, fun atmosphere and encourages ideas and development.
The individual will form part of the Retail Finance Team who provide a broad range of financial support services to UK retailers including a significant franchise network. They will be responsible for individual duties as well as supporting the team and Client Finance Manager as required. The role will be based at the Harborough Innovation Centre long term but will require an initial six-month placement at our Spaldwick Office.
Key Accountabilities
- Perform daily updates of purchase ledgers for multiple cost centres
- Perform daily reconciliations of bank payments and receipts
- Maintain control ledgers for revenues and cash movements
- Identify and investigate variances
- Review and upload weekly POS system journals
- Post payroll journals
- Communication with clients when required
Other Technical Activities
Assist the Client Finance Manager with:
- Post period end adjustments
- Periodic balance sheet reconciliations
- Maintaining fixed asset registers and depreciation journals
- Reconciling intercompany transactions and control accounts
- Preparing budgets and cash flow forecasting
- Analytical performance reviews and commentaries
- Preparation of KPI reporting
- Continued development of services and internal efficiency
General Requirements
- Undertake any necessary training and professional development
- Observe Data Protection, confidentiality and Health and Safety guidelines
- Manage business expenses in line with company policy
Essential Skills
- Able to demonstrate proven experience in a similar finance role
- Knowledge of and experience working with cost centres
- Good working knowledge of Excel and Office 365
- Studying towards a relevant professional qualification (AAT, CIMA, ACCA)
- Self-motivated and organised individual
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to thrive within a dynamic, team-focused environment
- Attention to detail and delivering a high quality service
Desirable Skills
- Strong analytical skills and a sense of professional scepticism
- Proactive in the delivery of feedback and ideas to improve services
- Knowledge of Xero cloud based software and add-ons
