Physics / Maths Graduate Coach/Teaching Assistant - Birmingham Secondary Academy - Starts September
My client school, based in south Birmingham/Solihull are keen to recruit one, possibly two, science or maths graduates to work on a full time permanent basis from the start of the new academic year in September. The recruited graduates will work solely within the school's science faculty but could be spread between Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics - dependent on your specialism and the demands of the school.

The school is a fully comprehensive, mixed academy of around average size. The school's sixth form is housed in the same grounds but separated from the main school buildings. In 2009 the school received specialist science status and is proud of the achievements they have made in this field. The school invests heavily in both their facilities and teaching staff, ensuring pupils are provided with the very best education and pastoral care.
About the role
As a Graduate Coach/Teaching Assistant your role is to provide proactive support to the class teacher in the chosen topic. On occasion this will be with the class as a whole but there will be some demand to take small groups aside, or out of the class, to provide more specialist help, be it to low achieving or gifted and talented pupils. Every day as a graduate coach is different, bringing new challenges and often new situations you won't have dealt with before.
Person Specification
To be successful in this role you need to be highly organised, knowledgeable in your science subjects and most importantly flexible and adaptable in your approach. Having patience and the ability to explain the same principle in different ways will also stand you in good stead. You will need either a first class or upper second class degree from a good university, ideally in Physics, Maths or Chemistry. Previous experience of supporting young learners is desirable but not essential. What is essential is an enthusiasm for supporting pupils in helping them achieve success in maths or science.
This experience as a Graduate Coach/Teaching Assistant in a school will hopefully provide you with some of the tools and skills necessary in becoming a good teacher, at whatever stage in the future you decide to pursue this avenue
