As a member of the design team the primary purpose of this post is to assist the Design Manager or Lead Engineer to achieve the objectives of the Company with respect to Mechanical designs for both internal and external clients. In doing this, to ensure maximum commercial and technical effectiveness and efficiency is maintained. Candidates with wide experience and knowledge in the waste to energy sector and/or Power Plants are highly desired (specific knowledge of Waste Mechanical Pre-treatment and Piping design is of an advantage).

Responsibilities
-Contribute to co-operative working across disciplines in accordance with the company's procedures, and contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams, leading them when required.
-Contribute to ensuring that effective internal/external working relationships are established and maintained with clients, sub-contractors and specialist suppliers. Ensuring that confidentiality is observed and maintained when dealing with private/confidential correspondence, reports, statements, records, other documents and information.
-Ensure cross discipline collaboration with other internal and external designers.
-Prepare estimates for the implementation of mechanical engineering services.
-Carry out basic design of process mechanical equipment and piping systems (including layouts / general arrangement drawings, equipment / piping / structural specifications and drawings).
-Liaise with the design manager during the design, installation and commissioning phases of the project and assist in construction supervision as when required.
-Carry out site surveys to identify the Client's needs and requirements making recommendations as necessary.
-Ensure that designs meet user requirements, cost limits and time scales.
-Contribute to the preparation of Health and Safety method statements and risk assessments in respect of construction work as required by the project to meet current legislation.
-Co-ordinate with Clients, other professions and members of Project Teams.
-Produce tender enquiry documents in respect of contracts for the provision of mechanical services / systems.
-Assist Quantity Surveyors in evaluating tender returns as may be required.
-Monitor and comment on sub-contractors work as may be required on individual projects.
-Contribute to the Engineering Team by attending as and when required regular team meetings and courses to ensure that changes in legislation and Company policies are fully complied with.
-Provide a professional and high quality service in accordance with the Company's Quality Assurance procedures and assist in the review of standards and procedures to ensure a continuing improvement in the service provided to the company's clients.

Essential
-The post holder should have at least a HNC in Mechanical Engineering or related career together with at least 5 years post-qualification experience.
-Sound organisational, communication, inter-personal and Customer Care skills.
-Experience in the design, installation, commissioning and management of mechanical engineering and piping design.
-The post holder must have working knowledge of current legislation and practices in all elements associated with Mechanical Engineering and Piping Design of Process Plants (particularly systems associated with Energy from Waste / Power Plants)
-To be conversant with Mechanical Engineering / Piping design of one of the following systems:
-Waste Mechanical Pre-treatment Process
-Mechanical handling plant and equipment
-Thermal process plant (including gasification, pyrolysis, incineration, combustion)
-Steam generation and Water Steam Cycle systems (including air cooled condensers, steam generators)
-General Process Plant Equipment and Piping systems
-To be reasonably computer literate
-Ability to work to deadlines, under pressure and on own initiative.
-The post holder should possess a current valid driving licence.
-Possess good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to communicate well at all levels and be able to control certain financial aspects of contracts and/or projects.
-Experience in the planning, organising and control of sub-contractors, be able to provide services to agreed standards, time scales and budgets.
-Chartered Member or aspire to hold Chartered Status and be a Member of one or more relevant professional institutions) such as IMechE
