SALARY & BENEFITS: GBP16,231 to GBP19,742 dependant on experience & qualifications


HOURS: Full time, waking nights

THE COMPANY: Our client, established in 1995 with a mission to support children who have been severely traumatised to grow socially and emotionally and to cope with school. They have two special primary schools and three children's homes for girls and boys age 6 to 12 years with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs resulting in challenging behaviours. Our client is currently recruiting for their Residential school in Kendal where they have been making a difference to the lives of the young people in their care for over twenty years.

.CANDIDATE: Waking Nights Carer/ Support worker (Children's Home)- Kendal, Cumbria

The ideal candidate must have 1 year minimum of working with children and young people and relevant Level 3 qualification or willingness to work toward one

The waking nights carer works between 10pm-09:00am, taking responsibility for the safety and security of the residents living in the House, ensuring that policies and procedures are adhered to and reasonable noise levels are maintained. Waking Night Carers must remain awake for the duration of the shift and will assess risk, manage incidents, and provide person centred support to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all residents throughout the night.

Main functions and Key Responsibilities: - Waking Nights Carer/ Support worker (Children's Home)- Kendal, Cumbria
  • To provide care and protection and maintain a safe and secure environment for the young people throughout the night.
  • To develop and maintain good relationships with the young people and to meet their intellectual, physical and emotional needs in accordance with agreed programmes.
  • To encourage them to have positive self-perception and a sense of belonging and community so that they can be socially responsible.
  • To promote their emotional resilience and competence so that they are able to self-manage.
  • To assist in the maintenance of standards of hygiene and cleanliness within the house and the maintenance of fabric, furniture and equipment.
  • To encourage the young people to respect themselves and others and to build a feeling of ownership and community with the home.
  • To keep professional records and follow reporting procedures
  • To carry out such other duties as are required and as are commensurate with the grade of the post


Key essential for the role: Care Team Member (Children's Home)- Kendal, Cumbria
  • Previous experience of working with children and young people essential
  • NVQ Level 3 Caring for Children & Young People qualification or willingness to work toward one
  • Be able to work waking nights shift pattern
  • Full driving license desirable but not essential
