Job purpose

Working closely with the support of Business Development Executives (BDE) to deliver high quality training, assessment and support to students in their workplace.

The postholder will carry a case load of students weighted according to the duties of this role. This will include assessing, training and internal quality assuring. In addition to this the post holder will lead a course team with additional duties such as course review writing, course development and lead course team meetings

It is expected that wherever an assessor or course leader starts on the spectrum of skills that they will deliver advice and guidance, support functional skills, assess NVQ/Diploma, deliver knowledge and, if appropriate the technical certificate.

Duties and responsibilities

In addition to the Work Based Assessor duties (stated below) the Work Based Course Leader will also:

  • Assist the course team with development of new courses and associated learning resources and communicate any course updates to the team
  • Write the course review and attend course review meetings
  • Organise standardisation meetings, nominating an appropriate chair person
  • Provide the information needed for an EQA visit and follow up any actions
  • Chair course team meetings
  • Action plan for students at risk
  • Monitor the completion and distribution of termly sponsor reports
  • Action plan for any attendance issues that arise with students
  • Carry out Lead IQA duties

Work Based Assessor duties

  • Carry out induction of employers ensuring commitment in support of the student's agreed programme. This will include conducting a health and safety audit and risk assessment
  • To manage the overall learning programme for each student and ensure full compliance with the apprenticeship scheme
  • Conduct interviews of potential students
  • Complete student enrolment and induction process once a suitable programme has been identified which meets the individual needs of the student. This includes:
  • Conducting initial assessments including identifying any additional support/learning needs
  • Agreeing and completing with each student an individual learning and assessment plan
  • Ensuring eligibility, and registering students to the appropriate examining board.
  • Meet agreed targets agreed with your Work Based Team Leader to deliver overall volumes of students
  • Maintain accurate tracking/records which allows your Team Leader to monitor progress for all students
  • To deliver in the classroom and assess qualifications in the workplace at appropriate levels
  • To support delivery of other apprenticeship framework components, including Employer Responsibilities and Rights (ERR) and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
  • To complete assessment visits and progress reports on each learner.
  • To carry out IQA procedures for all areas you are competent in
  • To meet the requirements of the Code of Practice as directed by Internal and External Quality Assurers
  • To participate in formal quality monitoring activity which will include observations
  • Completion of all Northampton College/SFA/ESF documentation relating to student/employer engagement, updating and making appropriate changes as required
  • Complete weekly diary of planned activities indicating location and timings of visits to ensure maximum time spent in purposeful activity with students.
  • Working closely with the Business Development team to promote College activity and recruit students
  • Build relationships with new as well as existing employers; forward prospective leads through to the Business Development team
  • Where appropriate and in liaison with the Business Development undertake specific promotional marketing activity, e.g. attending trade stands, careers events at schools, colleges and employers' premises and other organised events
  • Encourage employer participation on Advisory Boards.

EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION - EDE B Scale

This post is subject to Northampton College, Conditions of Service for Business Support staff and a six-month probationary period. On completion, you will be expected to participate in the College's appraisal system.

All members of staff are appointed to the College as a whole and may reasonably be asked to undertake similar or related duties in a department or team other than that to which they were originally appointed.

Please note that if this post requires unsupervised access working with children under 18 years and/or vulnerable adults, if appointed you will be required to complete a criminal record check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Hours of Duty: 37 hours per week Job share will be considered for this post

Salary: EDEB.5 scale GBP27,042pa, in addition there is a possibility of a market forces payment up to GBP2,958pa. Plus a discretionary bonus related to performance of up to GBP3,000. Depending on skills, experience and qualifications

Holidays: Holiday entitlement will be 35 days per holiday year pro rata (1 September - 31 August), including 8 bank holidays and 3 closure days. The College reserves the right to designate up to 3 closure days per holiday year.
