Experienced, dynamic and self-motivated Youth Worker required, working 12 hours per week at the rate of £10 per hour, based in Alvechurch with opportunity for role to grow with additional hours over time

The Lounge is an innovative project aimed at supporting the local community through events and services with a youth focus.  It is owned and run by ACT (Alvechurch Communities Together), a registered charity set up to support the communities of Alvechurch and surrounding areas.  The Trustees are now looking to recruit a Youth Worker to build upon the existing offer to young people of the community and further plan and deliver an exciting programme of activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To practice in line with The Lounge's Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times and keep the safeguarding of children at the forefront of all duties, escalating any concerns to the designated child protection lead;
  • To manage the youth diner sessions on Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons;
  • To devise and deliver an exciting scheme of activities that promote skills development in young people and educate them around relevant issues;
  • To manage the volunteers supporting youth activities;
  • To keep written records such as session evaluations, registers etc;
  • To actively contribute to fundraising bids and meetings;
  • To develop links with and utilise the resources of the local community;
  • To attend and participate in any relevant training;
  • To contribute to the quarterly reporting process by collecting and collating relevant data and case evaluations and presenting to the Management Committee;

Skills & Attributes Required:

  • It is essential that applicants hold a nationally recognised qualification in Youth Work at Level 3 and/or equivalent, as well as having demonstrable experience of direct work with young people (preferably 8 - 19 year olds), in a youth centre or outreach style environment;
  • Ideally you will have experience of working in a school and/or educational setting and within the community;
  • Volunteer management experience along with experience of small scale money and budget management would be desirable, as would experience of delivering agreed outcomes as part of external funding arrangements;
  • Having the ability to incorporate legislation and related guidance into everyday practice  along with the ability to maintain written records to a good standard is also essential;
  • You will be required to have excellent verbal communication skills with the confidence to communicate and engage effectively with young people from a wide variety of social and ethnic backgrounds including the ability to offer empathic, non-judgemental support on a one to one basis to young people;
  • You will be an outgoing, self motivated and flexible person who is able to work well on your own initiative with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information/data appropriately;

Hours of work and terms:-

  • Hours will be 12 per week - Tuesdays and Thursdays 3.30pm - 8.30pm with an additional flexible 2 hours per week for planning, admin etc. There may be an opportunity for additional hours as the role develops
  • Earnings will be £10 per hour
  • 28 days pro rata including Bank Holidays
