PHP, MySQL and Front End Web Developer

Our client is looking for an enthusiastic PHP web developer with knowledge of front-end development to join a growing development team based in Horsley, Northumberland. They are looking for someone keen to learn and grow into the role, but with a strong foundation and demonstrable knowledge of PHP, MySQL, HTML 5, CSS3 and JavaScript in order to support development within the current team. Candidates should be able to produce examples of work, which illustrate their abilities.

About The Role:

You will be responsible for implementing new features and enhancements to their existing projects and will be play a key role with ongoing development within the company. You will help with the implementation of new websites and systems for their customers and will also be expected to troubleshoot support requests from customers and end users.

A key part of the role will be to implement web designs using modern best practices for HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript through mobile first approaches, and utilise progressive enhancement via responsive designs for tablets and desktop.

Responsibilities:

• Build new features and functionality into their sites and systems.
• Assist with on-going development across existing projects.
• Write comprehensive documentation to accompany your code.
• Thoroughly test your own code and that of your colleagues.
• Investigate, diagnose and fix bugs and performance issues.

Essential Requirements:

• You must provide evidence of development on the LAMP stack and have examples of your work.
• Ability to go from design to implementation of web pages and web apps with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, utilising a mobile-first ethos.
• MySQL skills and the knowledge to interact with a database securely to protect against SQL injection.
• How to modify, create and maintain WordPress websites.
• Responsive design and front end frameworks such as Bootstrap.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Desirable Experience:

• CSS frameworks and pre-processors, such as LESS or SASS.
• PHP frameworks (Laravel, Zend, Symphony or similar).
• Unit testing frameworks, frontend and / or backend
• Version control systems such as SVN / GIT.
• MVC principles.
• Other JavaScript libraries such as AngularJS and ReactJS.
• Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator and some user interface design knowledge.
• Package managers and task runners such as composer, bower, grunt and gulp.

Salary: Salary Negotiable DOE + Pension
