About the role

Here at the Office for National Statistics (ONS) we run the largest peacetime mobilisation of resources: the census. Every 10 years, for over 200 years, every household in England and Wales has been required to respond to the census. It provides population statistics that will be used by planners, policy makers and researchers across the public, private and voluntary sectors for years to come. Information that will help our nation to make better decisions.

Ensuring that the Welsh-speaking public have access to complete, accurate and high quality information about the Census programme is key to making sure that as many people as possible take part in the 2021 Census. Joining our inclusive Public Support team as Welsh Language Editor, we’ll look to you to assist with the design and implementation of the bilingual aspects of our Public Support services. Collaborating with teams across the Census programme, you’ll ensure we deliver a full suite of content that will engage the Welsh-speaking population. From researching and writing copy to testing our bilingual online services – this varied role will develop as the programme progresses. It’s an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a national campaign as you help us prepare and deliver critical information to the Welsh-speaking public.

The post can be located in Newport, S. Wales, or in Titchfield, Hampshire. Some flexibility may be available for working from home for a portion of the week. Some (paid for) travel to Titchfield will be required, the frequency of which is negotiable.

About you

An experienced digital communicator with editorial experience in Welsh and English, you’re a proactive self-starter who’s calm and flexible in the face of changing priorities. A great team player, your friendly demeanour and inclusive communication style will enable you to work with a wide range of people. Ultimately, we’re looking for a person to join us who is passionate about their work and the people they serve. And of course, you’ll also need to be fluent in both Welsh and English.

Gall y swydd fod wedi ei lleoli yng Nghasnewydd, De Cymru, neu yn Titchfield, Hampshire. Gallai fod rhywfaint o hyblygrwydd i weithio gartref am ran o’r wythnos. Bydd yn ofynnol i deithio i Titchfield weithiau (telir am hyn) a gellir trafod pa mor aml y bydd yn rhaid gwneud hyn.
