An exciting opportunity has arisen with Cumbria County Council for an experienced HR practitioner to join the People Management Service as Business Partner.

In a period of unprecedented change, our Business Partner will have the opportunity to contribute to the work of the People Management Service, supporting Cumbria County Council to achieve its objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong generalist HR background, experience of working as a Business Partner and evidence of formulating and implementing strategic HR solutions. 

The Business Partner will act as the main contact for a nominated directorate, providing broad HR knowledge and expertise to support the people management agenda at a directorate and service level. You will work effectively across the Council’s diverse workforce to deliver a strategic customer focussed service.

The successful candidate will be responsible for customer focussed client management and will be the main point of contact for directorate/service in relation to key people management issues and requirements.  Providing a high level of strategic customer focussed service our Business Partner will build strong relationships with key service areas, understanding their needs and formulating solutions that utilise the full resources of the people management team. 

As our Business Partner you will be expected to contribute to directorate and service business plans, maintaining key contact with directorate management teams and developing a strong understanding of service people management. You will also support and promote best practice people management within the directorate through understanding the intricacies of the services and the workforce requirements.

Responsible for sourcing solutions from across the people management service, the successful candidate will be required to utilise the skills, knowledge and expertise within the team and other key services to meet specific workforce needs. You will also contribute to the planning, development and promotion of corporate and strategic initiatives in accordance with the Council and Workforce Plan, working flexibly across all professional areas of the people management service.

To be considered for the role of Business Partner, applicants will have:

- Degree or equivalent demonstrable experience.

- Membership of CIPD or demonstrable experience.

- Substantial people management experience

- Proven track record of formulating and implementing strategic HR policies and procedures.

- Substantial experience of working and operating within a unionised environment

- Knowledge and understanding of legislative frameworks

- Knowledge of key issues facing local governments.
