Role Summary:

Learning, research and enterprise in CSAD is often practice-based, experimental and experiential.  It is dependent on the sound and informed management of all workshop and studio areas and the effective delivery of opportunities for skill development, based on demonstrations and guidance provided by skilled Technician Demonstrators (TDs), in environments that are monitored and maintained for both the health and the safety of their users.

Whereas academic staff have overall academic responsibility for the delivery of the curriculum, they and all workshop users, primarily students,  are dependent on the support of TDs and the roles they play, not least in reference to health and safety in workshop and studio areas.

In essence, the Technician Demonstrator, under the line management of the Resources Manager, is responsible for: the delivery of inductions and demonstrations of skills in their area of expertise; the good management of materials, equipment, studio and workshop facilities; formal and informal technical advice on the development of skills needed for studio and other work; liaison across the TD team and with academic and administrator colleagues; and all such relevant tasks as are delegated.  Technician Demonstrators will be especially responsible for the health and safety of students within the studios and workshops.

Each TD has a workshop/s and studio area/s for which they hold responsibility for equipment, materials, appropriate activities, the demonstration of and advice on processes, and the health and safety of all users.

The role requires a very high level of specialist technical expertise, an ability to work with academics, administrators with flexibility and attention to detail, excellent ability to manage equipment, resources and spaces, and a passion for all that an art school can do.
