As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will aide in monitoring and controlling all costs on allocated rail projects from conception through to final account, ensuring the delivery of tendered gross profit margins.

Key Objectives

  • Provide support to the Quantity Surveyor and Senior Commercial Manager in Reporting current and forecast expenditures.
  • Monitoring of costs that impact project on a weekly basis and managing these costs against specific budgets.
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier accounts including but not limited to variations, valuations, dealing with any disputes that arise,
  • Manage Procurement Schedule and ensure timely procurement of labour, plant, materials and subcontracts.
  • Identify, quantify and notify all project variations, maintain the project change control register and early warning to client.
  • Provide support to the procurement department with tendering and implementation of new works
  • Provide support to the Production teams in pricing any new works (Construction Estimates) and pricing of changes.

Qualifications and experience required

  • Working towards a recognised quantity surveying qualification or relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail forms of contract and their administration including NEC, ICE, MF/1 and JCT, in particular target cost contracts.
  • Member of a professional body, or working towards.
  • Understanding of the CVR reporting methodology.
  • Experience of quantity surveying on rail projects of £2 million plus in value preferably but not mandatory.
  • Experience of accounting systems such as Summit or equivalent is preferable but not essential as training will be provided.
