Appointment of Vice-Chancellor

Established in 1872 as the first Welsh University, Aberystwyth University continues to transform and enhance lives. Deeply rooted in our coastal town and community, the University is at once local and global and is home to some 10,000 students and 2,000 staff from over 90 countries.

Our teaching, learning and research spans the arts, sciences and humanities and is organised into six Institutes. Passionate about developing skilled graduates, we are renowned for expertise in biological, rural and earth sciences; international politics; computer science; and Welsh and Celtic Studies. Our world-class research impacts lives globally through the study of climate change, disease and the fight against famine.

Like all universities we operate in a competitive challenging environment. As we approach our 150th anniversary in 2022, we are seeking an exceptional individual to head our University and chart the institution’s future strategic direction to maximise the opportunities available to us. To succeed, our next Vice-Chancellor will be an outstanding leader: inspirational, strategic, commercially-minded, and deeply committed to academic excellence and the success of the students and the communities we serve.

As a bilingual institution situated idyllically on Cardigan Bay, Aberystwyth University is fully aware of its duty to promote and encourage the Welsh language and culture. The Vice-Chancellor is expected to lead through example and make a demonstrable commitment to these aims, as outlined in the person specification.
